Oliver Warman RBA ROIwarman

Oliver Warman started drawing on his nursery wall since the age of 3 and has been doing this ever since. After the usual schools he went to Exter University and the Exeter School of Art and obtained a rather bad degree because he played cricket and squash too much - left on a Wednesday and joined his Regiment the next day.Soldiering was fine for about thirty years, during which time he was sent to Oxford and read War History. He was Military Assistant to the Prime Minister, saw three quite good wars and painted in the middle of them - which at times was quite exciting. He was elected to the RBA in 1984 and the ROI in 1989.If he is asked what he really likes to do he would say that he loves painting any landscape, is fascinated by painting cows and sheep, likes factories and shipyards, loves sailing boats  and storms and is passionate about mountains and the desert - all of which he paints regularly and exhibits as far away as MUNICH, COMO and CLAPHAM. Now and again he paints another man's mistress - with him present. He has written three books, his work illustrates a large number of painting manuals published in the UK  and  USA. When he is not painting, and now that his family are fully grown, he takes battlefield tours all over Europe and N Africa and Crete - and goes to the opera and masses. Norman Battershill is a great influence on him as was Edward Seago, Peter John Garrard  and Greg Davies - and of course the Newlyn School and in particular Elizabethe Stanhope Forbes. He welcomes commissions and travels to undertake them all-over Europe and the USA..
