The RBA has shown work by students from the Astor College for the Arts, from the National Student Exhibition and from The Arts Society [ex NADFAS] alongside the works of its members in the Society’s Annual Exhibition.
The Society members also offer workshops, talks and demonstrations during the course of the Annual Exhibition, which cover different aspects of artistic endeavor including sketchbooks, plein air painting, use of graphite, etc. Some of the members are called upon by outside groups to offer talks and advice to their students. The Council also makes an effort to visit Degree shows across the country in order to talk with students and encourage the development of their skills.
The Marianne Von Werther Memorial Award/Rome Scholarship
As a result of a generous bequest from the late Mr. G H Benn in memory of his late wife (a former member of the RBA), the Society is able to offer an annual scholarship to spend one month at Sala Uno in Rome in July. The emphasis for this award is for a young artist to demonstrate their skills and creativity combined with a desire to use the experience to develop their artistic knowledge and skills. Subject to Council approval, selected samples of work resulting from the stay in Rome may be shown at the annual exhibition.
As part of this award, the RBA has offered 20 semi-finalist from the applications received to participate in an exhibition called RBA RISING STARS which is held in a central London gallery. Also invited to this show are the 20 selected RBA STAR STUDENTS, who not only have their own exhibition, but are also invited to participate in the RBA RISING STARS.
From the 20 semi-finalists for the scholarship, the finalists are selected and their work is also included in the RBA Annual Exhibition, as well as work from the previous winner, which has been inspired by their scholarship in Rome.
