Laura Hardy trained and worked as a nurse until the age of 26 then obtained a grant to study medical art and fine art at the Regent Street Polytechnic. In 1958 she gained a scholarship at the Slade School and studied under Sir William Coldstream, and was awarded the Slade Diploma in Fine Art in 1960. During the sixties and seventies she exhibited regularly a variety of work , mainly still life, at the Royal Academy Summer Shows and sold to collectors in the UK, Italy and the USA.

During the eighties, besides devoting time to her two sons, she continued to paint views through windows, still-life, and interiors, both in oil and watercolour, and also a number of portraits. In 1992 she began to exhibit with the RBA and was elected as an associate Member in 1995 and a full member in 1998.

Her abiding interest is the object seen, whether still-life, interior, portraiture or the nude and though in some art circles this preoccupation is regarded as unfashionable, she shall continue to work within the limits of her own personal vision which has and still does meet the demands of an appreciative audience.
