George was a past member.

Born 1937, studied at Glasgow School of Art, winning top student awards locally and nationally, scholarship studies throughout Europe. With subsequent RSA Scholarship, travelled overland across the Sahara and worked in West Africa. On return to UK, invited to teach in Painting School at GSA. After winning major Arts Council award, set up own painting school, later relocated to France. Elected RSW 1964.

In 1972 presented art series for Scottish Television and in 1973 designed set/costumes for Embers̛̛ by Scottish Ballet. Chairman, Glasgow League of Artists 1977 - 79; President, Glasgow Art Club 1997 - 99. Elected RGI 1989; FRSA 1999; RBA 2004; ROI 2004; ARWS 2007. Devlin has won numerous national painting awards, including the Gold Medal of the Royal Society of Oil Painters (2004) and the Elizabeth Scott Moore Prize for Watercolour (RWS) in 2007.

In recent years he worked in Japan, India, South Africa, Hong Kong, Singapore, Italy, France, and Spain and Portugal. He was artist in residence in Collioure, France (2008) at the invitation of the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society. Major exhibitions in New York, Paris, Venice, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Kawasaki, Singapore, Johannesburg, Capetown, Bilbao, The Hague, Maastricht, London, Edinburgh and his native Glasgow.

Works in international collections including National Portrait Gallery (Edinburgh), Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, London Stock Exchange, De Beers (South Africa and Luxemburg), Dutch Water Board, the new Cunarder QM2, and private and corporate collections world wide. La Poste (France ) used five of his paintings to promote Val d̛̛Oise.

Devlin lived with his wife Marie in Glasgow.
