Sarah Spackman RBA ROI

Sarah Spackman AROI RBA is a contemporary figurative artist well known for her still-life paintings. She lives and works in Oxford where she has a studio in the Erith Road Workshops.

Sarah graduated from Camberwell School of Art in 1981 and since 1986 has worked full time as an artist and exhibited regularly, mainly in England and Ireland. Her work is in many private collections and a number of paintings have also been selected for the contemporary art collection of the AIB Bank.

She is a member of the Royal Society of British Artists and an associate member of the ROI.

Sarah Spackman's still-life paintings are based on observation, the study of a particular object, or group of objects, in a specific space. Strong drawing is the basis for a closer look at everyday objects that are often looked at but not seen.

Artist Statement:

I am often inspired by the specific beauty of an organic form be it a nasturtium picked form the allotment or a particularly handsome fig at the market. My way of expressing my response to these objects is through drawing and painting.

The considered setting up of a still life is a crucial part of the process. I focus on the objects themselves, how they relate to each other and the space in which they sit. When painting I pursue the development of the these relationship through constant looking, contemplating, redrawing and colour adjusting.
